Korea’s fighter-bomber
The straight-winged F-84 was outclassed by the MiG-15 in air combat, but as a rugged fighter-bomber with a heavy load it was very valuable. In Korea F-84s struck bridges, railways, airfields and, in 1953, North Korea’s irrigation dams.
NATO’s workhorse
The F-84G was one of the first single-seat fighters able to refuel in flight and to carry a tactical nuclear weapon. In the 1950s it was supplied under American aid programmes to many Western European air forces, and it was one of the Turkish Air Force’s first jet fighters. It was also the first aircraft of the US Air Force display team, the Thunderbirds.
In WarSimBox
In the game it is a jet fighter-bomber in the heavy line: fast down low, with a long range thanks to its wingtip tanks and six .50 in guns. It dives on ground targets with bombs and, once researched, eight HVAR rockets.
Unlocked in the aircraft tree after researching Republic P-47D Thunderbolt and Axial-flow turbojet.
