From the LaGG-3 to the La-7
The La-7’s roots go back to the wooden LaGG-3, regarded as a failure. By fitting a powerful radial in place of the liquid-cooled engine, Lavochkin created the La-5; the La-7 was the La-5 cleaned up aerodynamically, lightened and better armed. The wing spars changed from wood to metal.
An aircraft of aces
The La-7 went to the best Soviet fighter units in 1944–45. Ivan Kozhedub made the last part of his 62 victories in the La-7 and shot down an Me 262 in February 1945. After the war Czechoslovakia and other countries also flew the La-7.

In the game it is an energy fighter: very fast at low and medium altitude, a quick climber, with a short burst of emergency power. Its two 20 mm cannon are grouped above the engine. It loses power high up.
Unlocked in the aircraft tree after researching Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 and 2000 hp radial engine.
